THE BOARD of trustees of The Royal British Legion has acknowledged the “fantastic efforts” of members of the newly-formed Bulwell branch, whose poppy appeals have realised a total of £12,684 this year.

At a presentation ceremony held at Bestwood Road Sports and Social Club in the town, awards including badges and certificates were handed out to those who have made exceptional contributions.

Long-serving members included Cyril Newton, who was honoured in recognition of 25 years of poppy appeal collecting.

The chairman of the Bulwell branch, John Prichard, and his wife, Joan (15 years each), Graham Johnson, Paul and Anne Jackson (five years) and John Neagle (15 years) were others rewarded for their efforts.

“Local people have been very generous, digging deep to help us raise a substantial amount,” said branch member Ronald Hickling.
