Baby Harry’s charity ball is a big success

Suzy Mann organised a charity masked ball in aid of the Restricted Growth Association (RGA), which she has found to be an invaluable source of information and support since her 18-month-old son Harry Tuck was born.

Harry has achondroplasia - the most common form of dwarfism - but Suzy and her partner Mike knew nothing about it before their son was diagnosed.

Suzy said: “Like many parents of children with achondroplasia, I didn’t know anything about it before Harry came along.

“Once we got over the initial shock of the diagnosis we wanted to find out as much about the condition as possible and the RGA has been fantastic in providing information and support. I was keen to do something the help them with their work.”

The masked ball took place at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in September and after all the money that was raised was counted up, Suzy has revealed this totalled an amazing £3,224.

Over 150 guests enjoyed a three course meal with wine at the event and they were entertained by crooner Campbell Bass and magician Roy Bond.

A raffle and silent auction encouraged people to dig deep with prizes including a day pass for six to Centre Parcs and a Liverpool FC shirt signed by Steven Gerrard, which raised of £171.

Added Suzy: “It was a fantastic evening and I’m delighted it raised so much money. I’m already starting to think about next year’s event!”

Paul Rodriguez, the RGA’s vice-chairman, who attended the event, said: “It was a great event which raised both needed funds for the charity and also awareness of achondroplasia and other genetic conditions which result in dwarfism.”
