Members of the Jubilee carnival band will get together 15 years after going their seperate ways to remember Glyn Moss who died of lung cancer.

The reunion, at the Inn the Middle pub, is being organised by Glyn’s brother Dean, who was also a member of the band.

Over 150 people are expected to turn out at the event and Dean hopes to raise about £2,000.

He said a reunion was often spoken about by his brother just before he got ill, and he wanted to raise money for McMillan who looked after him at the same time.

“Glyn always wanted us to do it, so we thought we would do it for him and raise money for the McMillan unit that looked after him at Derby Hospital as well because they were just fantastic.”

There will be a disco, raffle, auction and band quiz, all starting at 7pm.

Dean said: “There will be some of our old instruments there but we haven’t played them for 15 years so we opted for the safe option of a disco instead!”

The Jubilee carnival band was started in 1981 by Alan and Gloria Mee who lived in South Street, Eastwood.

Their children were in the band, which is how Dean and his brothers, Glyn and Darrel, got involved.

“We lived in the same street,” same Dean.

“Glyn was best friends with their son so it all started from there. They were both drummers and I played the trumpet.”

The Mee family will be at the reunion tonight.

The band – which orginally dates back to 1935 – performed at carnivals and festivals all over the UK.

They used to rehearse at Inn the Middle, and also at the church hall opposite the pub.

Dean, 43, and his wife ran the band committee, but when they split up and divorced nobody wanted to take on their role so the band came to an end in 1999.

Glyn Moss was diagnosed with lung cancer last October and died six weeks later, aged 45.

He featured in the ITV series Superhospital earlier this year, which documented his stay in hospital and his battle with cancer.

Dean and Glyn’s wife, Dawn, have already raised £2,000 for McMillan since Glyn passed away.

They held a fundraiser at the Langley Mill pub and hosted a McMillan coffee morning.
