Bells ring out for London 2012

BULWELL St Mary’s was among thousands of churches across the UK where bells were rung to celebrate the start of the 2012 Olympics.

A request was made across the nation for ‘all’ the bells in the country to be rung as loudly and as fast as possible for three minutes between 8 am and 8.03 am last Friday.

But the time was quickly rearranged to 8-12-8.15 am when it was realised this would interfere with the BBC 8 am news bulletins.

At St Mary’s, it was decided to ring the bells twice — in the morning and the evening — because five ringers would be available for the first session and a further five for the second.
