Ashfield District Council held a consultation event at East Side Methodist Church on Tuesday morning.

The council is working in partnership with Butlers Hill and Goodall Tenants and Residents Association to secure funding to enhance the site’s recreational facilities and play area.

This is part of a commitment by the council to increase the quality of its parks and play areas.

The council’s community action officer, Gill Brookes, said: “The ‘rec’ has received little investment in recent years and the facilities are in need of refurbishment. The overarching aim is to regenerate the entire open space for greater use and to foster community pride.

“Initial ideas for improvement include footpaths, boundaries, car parking, provision of positive activities for young people and upgrading of the play area, which is very old and tired.

“A new play area and upgraded facilities on the park would provide a much-needed and valuable outdoor meeting area that all residents can enjoy. Not all children and young people in the area benefit from having a garden space to play in, so the recreation ground would provide a safe and exciting place for them to enjoy the outdoors.”

Gill said the council had £25,000 of section 106 money, which comes from developers, to spend on the project and it is hoped that further funding will be forthcoming from other sources.

Meanwhile, the Connecting Communities (C2) organisation will hold a meeting at St John’s Community Hall on Nottingham Road, Hucknall, Thursday 23rd April at 6 pm.
