A Hucknall mum turned her 30th birthday into a fundraising party for Nottingham City Hospital’s chemotherapy ward.

Laura Jane Hornby’s landmark celebrations raised a fantastic £856 at the George Street Working Men’s Club last month. They featured a raffle, tombola, as well as competitions like guess-the-sweets-in-the-jar, and name-the-teddy.

Laura, of Eastwood Close, said: “I chose this charity because it’s close to me and my family. My grandad John Hornby passed away four years ago with cancer at the age of 69 and then on Saturday 30th May this year, my great aunt Sonia Hickling died too - she was only 57 years old.”

Laura, mum of Joshua, aged ten, and a full-time carer for her grandmother, held a similar party two years ago for her son Joshua and raised £155.

Generous local businesses donated raffle prizes, including: Croft Farm Meats, Leen Valley Golf Club, Nottingham Theatre Royal, Goldcoast Tanning, the Yummie Tummies cafe, and the Olympia 2000 gym.
