Householders across Hucknall are calling the council ‘rubbish’ over their lack of action following the strike that has left hundreds of bins unemptied.
Bins have been left abandoned along many streets in the town as residents hoped they would be emptied on Saturday after the Thursday strike.
But the lorries failed to appear and now wheelie-bins are littering the pavements and overflowing with refuge as extra bags are placed in the streets.
And in a weekend that saw temperatures soar across the region, the smell of rotting food and nappy waste was proving too much as residents took to social media and called on Ashfield District Council to take action.
“This is no joke,” said Frances Grove resident, Ben Bradley. “The council knew the strike was happening so why didn’t they make extra provision to prevent this problem?
“It’s just not good enough.”
