Bircotes man admits murder of cyclist in Nottinghamshire

A Bircotes man has pleaded guilty to the murder of a cyclist in Nottinghamshire.

Sam Spaven, 26, of Norfolk Road, appeared this morning at Nottingham Crown Court where he admitted the murder of Richard Pencott, 44, of Balmoral Court, Bircotes.

Mr Pencott was killed on Blyth Road in Harworth, on June 24 this year.

Judge Michael Stokes adjourned sentencing until tomorrow.

A statement by the family of Mr Pencott, released through Nottinghamshire Police, said: “We are deeply shocked and devastated at Richard’s recent death. Richard was a much loved son, father and brother. His loss to us is immeasurable.

“We would ask for privacy to grieve for Richard at this difficult time.”
