Christmas is over, the summer’s a long way away and most of us are completely skint.

But there’s lot of ways we can improve our moods, from a hug to booking a holiday.

And a recent survey found that listening to music was the top way many of us remain positive.

The poll, which was conducted to mark the release of The Martian on Digital HD on January 25, found that the top five ways people’s moods are affected in January are:

1) Bad weather

2) Darker mornings

3) Colder temperatures

4) No money

5) Weight

And when asking people what lightens their mood, the top five answers were:

1) Listening to music

2) A hug

3) Sunshine

4) Watching a film on DVD

5) Booking a holiday.
