Bonfire Night emergency calls did not rise in Nottinghamshire

Firefighters have praised districts across Nottinghamshire after they did not notice an increase in incidents on Bonfire Night this year - but are still warning people to be careful this weekend.

Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue has thanked residents in the county for their co-operation and is urging them to stay safe at any other events over the next few days.

A service spokesman said: “Thankfully last night was very much like any normal night for our firefighters and we didn’t notice a particular Bonfire Night related spike in incidents.

“We are aware though that there may be people still having bonfire and firework displays over the weekend and we would still urge anybody that is doing so to stay safe.

“If possible, we always recommend going to organised displays. However, should anybody be holding their own we would say please be careful with fireworks, sparklers and naked flames.

“Also, if you’re having a bonfire, please be careful not to place it near houses, fences, trees or anything else that can catch fire and in this bad weather particularly, we advise that accelerants and petrol are never used to light bonfires.

“We would also like to thank people in Nottinghamshire for heeding our advice, staying safe and not putting extra strain on our firefighters over the course of Bonfire Night.”
