Book inspired by grandkids

HUCKNALL gran Linda Cooper has written her first book — and it was inspired by her eldest grandchild, Abigail.

Linda (62), of Portland Road, has entitled her children’s story ‘The Dust Pups’.

The main character is a cat called Cosmo. He is based on a pet cat owned by eight-year-old Abigail, of Beardsmore Grove, Hucknall, which sadly went missing and has never been found.

Linda says: “I hope my book will provide some consolation to Abigail.”

Like famous children’s author Beatrix Potter, Linda has provided her own colourful illustrations to the delightfully imaginative book.

“I began by writing little bits but something took off in my mind and this gave me the motivation to complete a full story,” says Linda.

Her idea for producing the book was to give her grandchildren something to read. But now it has been published, it can be enjoyed by other children as well.

Linda and her husband, Tony, have three sons, Andrew, Jonathan and David. Their other grandchildren are Ben (seven), Damien (five) and Luke (three).

The author has dedicated the book to her family and children everywhere, with a special acknowledgment to Abigail and her love of Cosmo the cat.

The story tells how Cosmo accidentally knocks the magic wand of his owner, Wizard Willoughby, off a table, leading to the appearance of the four Dust Pups, Bluebell, Inky, Cherry and Sunny.

Together they have a series of adventures, including helping Molly Mouse and her three babies, whose home has been washed away by heavy rain. They also bump into such pals as another moggy named Snax, another wizard called Snodgrass, Billy Rabbit and Sammy Snail.

Linda was formerly on the staff of Papplewick Pre-School Group but left to look after her elderly mother. She is now planning a sequel to ‘The Dust Pups’ and hopes to write other stories.

‘The Dust Pups’ has been published by ShieldCrest, of Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire. Linda will be at Hucknall Parish Church bazaar on Saturday November 10 from 10 am to 1 pm and at Hucknall Library on Saturday November 17 from 10.30 am to 2 pm for book signings.
