Lois Naomi Hayes, 20, of Cornmill Road, admitted being in charge of a car whilst unfit to drive, when she appeared before Mansfield Magistrates Court on Thursday.

She was found in the driver’s seat of her Ford Focus, in Clumber Street car park, in the early hours of October 31, and a breath test put her nearly three times over the legal limit.

She told police she had been to the After Dark night club, where she drank lager and malibu, and planned to sleep in the car, said Ruth Snodin, prosecuting.

James Whyley, prosecuting, said: “She had a blanket, and a night bag and her work uniform with her, but that doesn’t give her a defence.

“She put the seatbelt on automatically and turned on the electrics, but not the engine, to lower the window.”

He said a driving ban would mean she would lose her job as a bar maid at a restaurant near Southwell, where she had worked since she was 16, because there was no public transport.

District Judge Andrew Meachin put ten penalty points on her licence, which had formerly been clean, and fined her £125, with with £85 court costs and an £30 victim surcharge.
