A MAN has died after being hit by a train on the Robin Hood railway line, which serves Hucknall, Bulwell and Newstead.
The 34-year-old, from Kirkby, was pronounced dead at the scene at the Sutton Parkway junction between Sutton and Mansfield at 4.30 pm on Wednesday. The accident caused delays to the timetable.
Officers from British Transport Police (BTP) and Nottinghamshire police have launched an investigation..
A BTP spokeswoman said: “The death is currently being treated as non-suspicious and at this time appears to have been a tragic accident.
“Our thoughts are with the man’s family and friends. The Rail Accident Investigation Branch (RAIB) has also been notified.
“A file will be prepared for the coroner.”
The train involved was the 3.55pm Nottingham-to-Mansfield service. Lines were handed back to Network Rail at 5.30pm.
