Bulwell and Hucknall folk urged to feed the birds this winter

Bird-lovers in the Bulwell and Hucknall areas are being encouraged to feed their feathered friends this winter.

Despite the Twelve Days of Christmas song, Turtle Doves have not been seen in the county for a number of years, but Nottinghamshire County Council staff are hoping people will help other birds survive the winter.

Sue McDonald, Community Liaison Officer at Bestwood Country Park, said: “It is an idea for people to put food out for birds over the winter as it helps to keep the numbers up, and then more singing will be heard in the spring when breeding time kicks off.”

A health walk takes place at the country park on Wednesday 18 December, between 10.30am and 12 noon. Call Sue on 0115 9753782 for details.
