Bulwell: Girlfriend fined for ‘reckless’ damage

She kicked in his front door and scratched his car with a key, Nottingham Magistrates’ Court was told.

Chantel Green (22), of Hirst Close, Arnold, pleaded guilty to two charges of criminal damage to property belonging to Wayne Cameron.

The court heard that Green and Mr Cameron, who is six years older, had been in an “on-off relationship” since she was 15 years old in 2008.

But there had been “ongoing problems”, which came to a head on Friday 17th January when he ignored text messages and phone calls that she made.

Green decided to go round to his home address in Bulwell, where she hammered on the door and kicked it, inadvertently but recklessly smashing the glass.

She then intentionally ran a key round Mr Cameron’s Vauxhall Astra, which was parked outside.

Joanne Chadd, defending, said Green was “in a real state”. “She was very angry, upset and frustrated, and she self-combusted.

“She was trying to contact him with regard to £200 he owed her. Money was tight for her, so £200 was a significant amount.”

Mrs Chadd said that, with hindsight, the pair’s relationship was “not healthy”, and they were no longer together.

Green had been employed since leaving school at the age of 16, and was currently employed as a carer, helping the elderly with their social needs, including cooking and shopping. She had the full support of her mother, who was in court.

Green was fined £150 and ordered to pay £85 court costs, plus a victim surcharge of £20. No order for compensation to Mr Cameron was made.

The chairman of the Bench, Kim Barlow-Miles, told Green: “We accept there might have been some provocation, but this kind of behaviour was unacceptable.

“You cannot take matters into your own hands like this.”
