Bulwell school gives boost to poor families

A CARING Bulwell school is helping to feed poverty-stricken local families.

Crabtree Primary School has donated just under a quarter of a tonne of food for the Bestwood and Bulwell Foodbank.

The Rev Andy Morris, vicar at St Matthew’s Church, Bestwood Estate, and St Philip’s, Top Valley, visited the Steadfold Close school to collect the food.

He said it was a particularly generous gesture by the school, considering that Crabtree is a poor area with 70 per cent of the pupils receive school meals.

Since last September, the food bank has provided a total of 6,000 meals for more than 300 adults and just under 300 children.
