A Bulwell store manager has helped raise £2,500 after successfully completing a 24 hour sponsored walk, in aid of Maggie’s Centres.

Taj Hussain, store manager of the Wilko store on Main Street, crossed the finish line at Maggie’s in Nottingham with six other staff members after making the gruelling 64 mile journey from the charity’s new centre in Manchester.

The Wilko managers were met by cheering friends, family and team members from the charity, which provides free practical, emotional and social support for people with cancer.

Taj said: “Although the challenge was really tough, we all had such a fun time completing it. We were so chuffed when we crossed the finished line in time.

“I’m delighted we managed to hit our fundraising target of £2,500. It was fantastic to be able to raise money for Maggie’s Centres, our regional charity of the year.”

Kate Martin, centre head at Maggie’s Nottingham, said: “The team did a brilliant job and we couldn’t be happier they successfully completed the 24 hour challenge, it certainly wasn’t easy.

“The money raised will go towards continuing to provide cancer care services. On behalf of everyone at Maggie’s Centres.

I’d like to say a big thank you to the Wilko team. They raised a great amount of money and also helped raise awareness of the proposed centre in Manchester and our work here in Nottingham.”
