Bulwell students prepare for world of work in employment programme

To counter recent allegations that careers advice in schools is ‘not fit for purpose’, The Bulwell Academy has been quick to argue that it isn’t the case in all schools.

The Academy’s award-winning Employment Intelligence Programme is now being offered to Year 10 students. Students take time out of lessons to think about their plans for the future, learn about basic employer expectations and take practical steps to find themselves a work experience placement.

The Academy’s specialism in business and enterprise, requires students to think about how their subject choices can apply to the world of work. If a student has poor attendance, they will be challenged to consider what the cost to an employer would be, whilst the importance of personal presentation is also discussed.

Now in its fifth year, the Employment Intelligence Programme has been further developed each year and it has become a keystone in student development.

The programme was a key factor in the Academy’s recent achievement of School of the Year when business leaders selected the academy’s exceptional input to making a real difference to the employment prospects of its students.

The programme will prepare young people for the world of work with a real insight into developing their CVs, understanding their personal strengths and considering the ‘transferable’ skills which all employers seek. Students are actively encouraged to find their own work experience placements and to consider how this will provide an insight into their future career choices.
