A BULWELL bus driver has been singled out for praise at a prestigious national awards ceremony.

Elaine Allitt, who can be seen on TRENT BARTON’S Radcliffe line and Xprss buses, was highly commended in the Bus Driver of the Year category at a glittering ceremony held at The Hilton Hotel in London’s Park Lane.

The accolade comes three years after her husband, Barry, took the top prize.

The Heanor-based business, which was formed in 1908, scooped four honours in total at the UK Bus Awards.

“We’re delighted at such a strong showing at an event recognising excellence across the bus industry,” said managing director Jeff Counsell

Elaine was pipped at the post to the top title of UK Bus Driver of the Year by colleague Allan Gilmour, who works out of the Sutton depot. And the company’s first graduate management trainee, Tom Morgan, took the title of Young Bus Manager Award.

Mr Counsell added: “Allan, Tom and Elaine have proved exceptional employees, they set the standards for others to follow and we’re really proud of their achievements.”

“We’re also pleased at the Making Buses a Better Choice Award, which acknowledges the success of our rapid 1 service between Ripley and Nottingham. Over the last year it has encouraged more people to use the bus by offering a frequent, fast and high quality service run by a dedicated team of drivers.”

Trent Barton enjoyed further success in the Marketing Excellence category with an innovative campaign promoting the firm’s MANGO smart card.
