Business park expands interest in trading in Derbyshire

Another 18 hectares of land on Markham Vale, Derbyshire County Council’s flagship regeneration site, have been given enterprise status, bringing benefits for businesses setting up in the area including tax breaks from Government.

Split over two sites, the new areas will form part of the Local Economic Partnership enterprise zone for Sheffield City Region.

One site, covering five hectares near Duckmanton, has already been prepared for development and is immediately available for businesses looking to move into the area.

A second area, covering 12.9 hectares on the former Seymour Colliery site, will be reclaimed and prepared for development over the next 12 months.

Coun Joan Dixon, Derbyshire County Council’s cabinet member for jobs, economy and transport, said: “This is great news for Derbyshire.

“Attracting new business investment to the area is a key part of our vision for creating a thriving economy in Derbyshire.

“Together with local district and borough councils, we’ve been working hard to further develop our Markham Vale regeneration site. Over the past twelve months, we’ve brought developments promising to bring 500 jobs to the site and widening the enterprise zone with its great transportation links will increase Derbyshire’s appeal as a fantastic place for businesses looking to start-up or expand.”

Derbyshire is just one section of the Sheffield City Region enterprise zone being expanded. New areas in Barnsley, Sheffield, Rotherham and at Doncaster Sheffield Airport have also been granted enterprise zone status taking the total area from 145 hectares to 215 hectares.
