Ashfield District Council is beginning a series of consultation events with local traders, stakeholders and the general public over a number proposals designed to reinvigorate Sutton Town Centre.
In the first phase, the Council is proposing to move the outdoor market from its existing location to Portland Square, using demountable stalls which will be removed on non-market days.
This will allow for the existing outdoor market site to be transformed into a short stay car park, providing the opportunity for the car park on New Street to be amended allowing for long-stay parking within the town centre.
Jim Aspinall, Ashfield District Council’s member for Regeneration, Community Well-Being and Corporate Services said: “I would hope to see as many people as possible attend this consultation.
“We have listened to ideas from various people and organisations and the proposals will include many of these suggestions.
The Council will be holding the following consultation events:
l On Friday from 9am–5pm - a stand will be located next to Masarella’s Cafe in the Idlewells Shopping Centre
l On 16th December from 5.30pm a meeting for the general public and relevant stakeholders will be held at Sutton Community Academy’s Princess Suite.
