New retirement apartments could be built off Nottingham Road in Hucknall.

Following pre-application consultations with the local community, developer McCarthy & Stone has now submitted plans to Ashfield District Council .

The company says the plans would see the site sensitively developed, with a building that retains local character, delivering 37 retirement living apartments.

Retirement Living apartments are specifically designed to meet the needs of people in later life and include a residents’ lounge and other shared facilities, together with a fully-trained house manager.

Darren Humphreys, regional managing director at McCarthy & Stone said: “We’re very encouraged that our plans have already received a good level of positive local feedback.

“We’ve strived to introduce a scheme that will make a positive contribution to the special character of Hucknall, whilst improving the range of housing choice available to people in later life.

“It is important that a community meets the housing needs of all its residents, and this development would help meet a local, and growing, housing need in the area.

“Increasing the housing choice for residents in later life also helps to release family-sized housing back into local markets, which helps to stimulate the housing chain and enable young families and first time buyers to have a better opportunity within the housing market.”
