Call time on potholes with report system

Nottinghamshire residents are being reminded that they can report potholes to the County Council via its customer service centre and website.

The Council’s highways teams regularly check Nottinghamshire’s roads for defects such as potholes but, increasingly, members of the public are playing their part by getting in touch.

Although the majority of potholes are found through regular highways inspections, inevitably there are some which slip through the net. And since its introduction in 2010, the Council claims its online reporting system in particular has proven to be a huge success.

Last year (1st January to 31st December 2013) the County Council repaired more than 34,400 potholes across Nottinghamshire.

Over the same period it received 5,478 pothole-related enquiries.

Director for highways Andy Warrington, said: “Since it was launched, the number of potholes reported by residents via our online system has risen considerably though most are still discovered via inspection.

“With the best will in the world, however, we can only inspect a road so often and, in most cases that means once a year so, unless people let us know about a problem, a pothole could be left untreated for several months.
