Ashley Michael Smith, 21, of Albert Road, admitted possession of the class B drug when he appeared in front of Mansfield magistrates on Wednesday.

Ruth Snoddin, prosecuting, said police had visited his address on May 19 to discuss another matter but smelled cannabis.

When questioned, Smith showed them a glass jar containing the drug which he said was for personal use.

The court heard he had a previous conviction for affray from March 2014, for which he received a two year suspended sentence.

He was fined £40 and ordered to pay costs of £85 and a victim surcharge of £30.
