Car park closure as Hucknall improvement scheme begins

A Hucknall car park will close for good next week as contractors prepare to demolish a number of buildings in the area.

The car park, on Station Road, will no longer be accessible from Monday, October 19, when workmen will take over the site.

They are carrying out a number of demolition works along the new relief road in the town as part of an improvement scheme.

Signs are being put up and letters are being sent out to local residents to let them know the car park will close.

Motorists are being advised to park at the Piggins Croft car park instead.

Several properties will be demolished as part of the improvement scheme, such as the vacant properties on Woollaton Street, Titchfield Street and Baker Street.

Utility companies, such as Virgin Media and Western Power, will also be carrying out work at Station Road.

The demolition works will be completed just before Christmas - in time for the construction of the new road, which will start in January.

The county council is hosting a ‘meet the contractor’ event next week, which will give residents a chance to meet representatives from Carillion Tarmac, who will be building the new road, and also to view the plans.

Network Rail will also be there to go through the proposed bridge repairs on Station Road which are set to take place next year.

This will take place at the John Godber Centre in Hucknall between 4pm and 8pm on Wednesday, October 28.
