This is the second event held to commemorate the life of Craig Dowhan who died in a car accident in March 2014.

Held at Rolls-Royce Leisure on Hucknall’s Watnall Road on Saturday, the event was hailed a success by Craig’s dad who helped organise the day.

“It was a brilliant day and we received tremendous support from the community,” said Chris Dowhan. “Our numbers were down a little this year but there were a few distractions that day including the Forest V Aston Villa match but we were still delighted with the turn-out.”

Four teams took part in the tournament with FC Dowhan taking on last year’s winners, Linby in the final.

“Linby beat us 1-0 but we had plenty of chances,” added Chris who says it was a hard fought game. “They keep the cup for another year.”

As well as the football, there was plenty for the whole family to enjoy. And to boost funds further, a charity auction and raffle were also held on the day.

“We managed to gather some terrific sports memorabilia to auction, including signed boxing gloves from Nottingham’s Carl Froch,” added Chris. “We are still counting the money but we are expecting over £1,000 which is amazing. This will be split between FC Dowhan, to keep the team going in Craig’s memory, and we are currently looking at a number of local good causes to decide where the other half will go.”

Following the event’s continued success, the Dowhan family have decided to make it an annual event.

“Through the team and the tournament we hope to keep Craig’s memory alive and help good causes too,” added Chris. “We want to thank everyone for their continued support and we are now looking forward to next year’s event.”

There remains some raffle prizes to collect. Call Chris on 07943 862294.
