The collision on Highbury Vale involved two cars - a Mercedes and Nissan - with one carrying two children.

The youngsters and an adult from one of the cars were treated at the scene by paramedics from East Midlands Ambulance Service (EMAS) but did not require hospital treatment.

Two engines from Stockhill fire station spent around an hour at the scene.

The road was shut for about two hours.

An eyewitness said: "There was really bad traffic in both directions which was held up for ages."
