Chad readers dig deep for Guide Dogs

Caring Chad readers have helped to buy five more dogs for our long-standing charity, the Guide Dogs for the Blind Association.

Your generosity throughout the past few years has helped to raise£12,500 for the charity - the equivalent of five dogs.

Chad assistant editor Ashley Booker presented the money to members of the Mansfield and District branch of the charity in the Four Seasons Centre on Saturday.

Delighted long-standing member, Nancy Else, paid tribute to Chad readers for their continued support.

She said: “We are always very grateful for any donation we get but when we get that amount it really boosts your morale.

“It will help four or five guide dog owners to get their dogs a bit quicker.

“Thank you very much and keep up the good work.”

The fund was set up more than 50 years ago by Anne Greenslade.

Since then Chad readers have helped to buy nearly 300 guide dogs for local folk.

Tony Spittles, who co-ordinates the fund for Chad, said: “The unflagging support of Chad readers who, with donations large and small, has provided the funds to buy and train more than 290 guide dogs to give blind people a new lease of life.”

Meanwhile, a charity stall run by the branch in the Four Seasons on Saturday helped to raise more than £1,000.
