Chance to win e-book with council reading challenge

Derbyshire readers are reminded to sign up for the Adult Reading Challenge for the chance to win a Kobo e-book.

There is still chance to sign up for the challenge set by Derbyshire County Council before the closing date on Saturday 7th December.

The council developed the challenge to encourage readers aged 16 and over to read six books on a travel-related theme and jot down their thoughts about them in a ‘reading passport’.

The passport has six categories to guide and inspire readers to delve deeper and read a book from each. These include ‘Familiar Faces’ where readers choose a book about their favourite travel destination and ‘New Worlds’ which is about trying a new genre or author.

Coun Ellie Wilcox, deputy cabinet member for health and communities, said: “I am delighted to hear that so many people have joined the challenge and would encourage others to do so.

“It is a great opportunity to discover new authors and genres. It also helps people to become more confident readers which is a great thing.”

The Adult Reading Challenge is also open to home library users and members of listening groups. Suggestions of titles to be read include large print, audio books and e-books as well as standard hardbacks and paperbacks.

After the challenge finishes in early December there will be celebratory ceremonies across the county with certificates for all those who have taken part.
