Charity needs your help to keep going

Hetty’s, based on Woodhouse Road, will soon be solely reliant on the income it makes from its eBay shop Humane Touch and its Huthwaite charity shop Donate and Dazzle.

The charity provides a seven days per week phone support line for families struggling under the pressure of supporting a loved one through their difficulties.

Its support workers also provide face-to-face advice, mediation between family members and complimentary therapies, such as hot stone massages to help relieve stress.

A volunteer who used to be a client said Hetty’s had literally save her life.

The woman, who preferred not to be named, said: “My son was using heroin and my brother had died and I just could not cope.

“I phoned Hetty’s up and that was the start of my recovery. They listened to what I had to say.

“They helped me accept that if I wanted to help my son I had to help myself.

“I had to learn to live day by day. My advice is if you go along the road of doing everything for your loved one your life will probably go the same way.”

The volunteer said many in her position made the mistake of taking on too much responsibility for their loved one’s recovery and Hetty’s helped her overcome this.

Hetty’s clients are offered an initial assessment to determine the kind of help they need, whether interventions or just some advice.
