A BRAVE Hucknall man is to defy his fear of heights to complete a parachute jump in aid of Cancer Research UK.

Dad-of-two Garry Elsom (37), pictured, of Burberry Avenue, will leap from an aircraft thousands of feet in the air at the airfield of RAF Langar, near Radcliffe-on-Trent, a week on Sunday July 10. He is hoping to raise £1,000 in sponsorship.

Garry, who works for Severn Trent Water, is motivated to raise money for Cancer Research UK because his grandfather and two of his uncles have died from the illness in the last 16 years.

“I also have friends who have had cancer and mates who are battling the illness now,” added Garry. “So many lives are affected by cancer.

“I’m determined to do the jump. But I am worried because of my vertigo. It’s affecting my sleep!”

Sponsorship forms are available at the Specsavers store on High Street, Hucknall and at Total Sports on Watnall Road in the town.
