Parents of young children in Hucknall are being asked to contact Nottinghamshire County Council to see if they qualify for free childcare starting in the autumn term.

The council has been awarded around £4.5 million from the Government to fund free early years places for selected two year olds. An additional £2.8m is to be used to increase the number of places available across the county.

Eligible children will be able to take up their free places at the start of the term following their second birthday.

There will be another round of applications for children who are two during the autumn term, with their places starting after Christmas, and a further round during the spring for children to start in the summer term.

The ‘application window’ for applying for a place to start in the autumn term began on 1st June and ends on 12th July 2013.

The council says that the easiest way to apply is on-line, using or by calling 0300 500 8080.
