Parishioners at St Mary Magdalene Church are appealing for old photographs, artefacts and information to help create heritage displays.
Organiser Adrian Sissons says the campaign was launched after the church won £100,700 from the Heritage Lottery Fund to restore the church inside and out.
He said: “The South transept of the church is also being redeveloped to provide a display and hospitality area.
“As part of the grant the church is developing a series of new displays of it’s heritage which describe the people and events that have helped shape the local community.”
The church is looking for images of Lord Byron, Ada Lovelace, Ben Caunt and Charles Eamer Kempe, a Victorian stained glass designer whose work features in the church.
Mr Sissons added: “Other local themes include the actor Robin Bailey, Rolls Royce at Hucknall Aerodrome, the National School, framework knitting, mining, Zachariah Green, Dr Wallen and Franz von Werra -who as a POW tried to escape by stealing a plane from Hucknall airfield.”
