The bus service, managed by Stagecoach, provides regular and direct links between Retford, Worksop, New Ollerton and Nottingham for more than 35,000 passengers each year, and gives great public transport access for people wanting to travel to and from Sherwood Forest and Edwinstowe village.

For the 32nd Robin Hood Festival between August 1 and 7, organised by Nottinghamshire County Council, the service provides a fantastic way for the family to travel via public transport to Edwinstowe to explore the village.

And from there it’s just a short walk to enjoy all the medieval fun and capers of the free family festival.

Visitors will enjoy travelling on one of the buses – complete with a cartoon character adorning each of the four vehicles in the fleet – one for Robin Hood, Friar Tuck, Maid Marian and the Sheriff of Nottingham respectively.

The fun designs will all be in place on the vehicles by the time the festival starts.

A family bus explorer ticket on the Sherwood Arrow costs £10 for two adults and up to three children, offering great value for a family day out on the bus to the country parks or Nottingham.

The new cartoon drawings of Robin Hood characters on each of the buses look fun as well and it’s another great way for Nottinghamshire’s famous outlaw to be celebrated.

Coun Kevin Greaves, chairman of the council’s transport and highways committee, said: “The Sherwood Arrow provides an excellent service to enable bus passengers to visit local visitor attractions between Worksop and Nottingham such as Rufford Abbey and Sherwood Forest, and we are proud to be teaming up with Stagecoach as we prepare to enjoy the 32nd annual Robin Hood Festival.”

Coun Greaves and I both met with Andy Smith , commercial manager (south), and Jason Dixon, engineering manager at Worksop Depot (both Stagecoach East Midlands) to see one of the new-look buses recently.

Also in attendance were Steve Warrington (Robin Hood) and Mark Williams (Sheriff of Nottingham) who entertain crowds every year at the Robin Hood Festival.

The festival is free entry but with £5 parking and provides a great day out for the family.
