College boss in line for national women’s award

Dame Asha Khemka, principal and chief executive of West Nottinghamshire College Group has been shortlisted in the prestigious First Women Awards 2015.

The Real Business First Women Awards celebrate the achievements of inspirational women from businesses and professional sectors.

Dame Khemka has been shortlisted in the First Women of Public Service category.

Dame Asha said:“I feel honoured to be shortlisted for this award in the company of such esteemed women leaders from sectors as diverse as business, media, public service, manufacturing, engineering, and science and technology, to name just a few.

“It is further proof that colleges are now regarded as major businesses in their own right, and ones that make a significant contribution to our economy and to UK Plc..

“While this personal recognition is very humbling, it is also testimony to the hard-working and dedicated staff who make this college the success story that it is.”

Dame Asha is no stranger to high-profile awards, having collected a string of prestigious accolades since joining the college in 2006.

In 2007 she won the National Jewel Award for Excellence in Healthcare and Education and in 2008 picked up an Asian Woman of Achievement award.

In addition, Dame Asha was named Businesswoman of the Year in 2009 and last year she also received the coveted Woman of the Year accolade from Prime Minister David Cameron at the GG2 Leadership Awards.
