Methodist Church

Holy Communion on Sunday morning was taken by the Rev David Greenwood. There were readings from Alan Tighe and Enid Marsh played the organ. For their evening service members visited Blidworth Methodist church for a service led by Bob Jones.

Tuesday Fellowship

The meeting on Tuesday at Farnsfield St Michael’s Church was led by Enid Marsh who also talked on ‘Simple Truth’s.

Friendship Club

Thirty-seven members and friends of the club were welcomed by Jenny Frost at the Village Centre on Friday week. They enjoyed refreshments, bingo, a raffle and an interesting talk on ‘Personal Safety’ by Pc Jayne Walters. For their next meeting on Friday, club members will take a trip to Royal Crown Derby followed by a visit to the Westfield Centre.

Flower Club

The next meeting will be on Monday at 2pm in the Lower Hall, Farnsfield Village Centre, New Hill and will be a demonstration called Chelsea Fun with Alison Doxey. New Members are welcome.

Horticultural Society

The society is preparing for its spring show on Saturday 12th April at the Village Centre. The schedules will be available from local shops. It will be open to the public after 12.30pm.

Rainworth

Over 50s Club

Mr R. Holmes welcomed 94 members to their meeting on Tuesday week at the Rainworth Miners’ Welfare. Mr C. Dodsworth was the MC for dancing and the spot waltz winners were Mr and Mrs Molly and Ken Cooper. Serving refreshments to the members were Mrs E. Baxter, Mrs R. Dodsworth and Mrs B. Murphy. Mr B. Holmes called the bingo and the ticket sellers were Mrs A. Plastow and Mrs O. Parkin. The MC for dominoes was Mr J. Saunders and the winners were Mrs M. Jackson and Mrs F. Harrison. The competition winner was Mrs F. Harrison. The weekly raffle was held with the prizes donated by the club, and Mesdames, Chamberlain, Seed, Newberry, Maggio, Dean, White, Tomlinson, Green, Tiplady, Purdey, Dennett, Baxter, Fell, Creasey, Wood, Millward, Knight, and Edmondson.There are currently membership opportunities available, anyone interested should call in on Tuesday afternoons.

4th Rainbows

Rainbows met at SS Simon and Jude’s on Friday evening when they thought about Australia Day. They made flags and coloured pictures of Australian animals. They also played games and sang the Kookaburra song.

St George’s RC Church

Fr Christopher Thomas led mass on Saturday evening and was assisted at the altar by Lilly Davis, Andrew Storey and Rachel and Jordon Boulton. There were readings from Kath Learmonth and Janet Clayton. Jackie Massey, Frances Alsop, Brian McDonagh and John Storey were offertory bearers and Michael Boulton, Angela Storey and Andrew Storey were Eucharistic Ministers.

Methodist Church

The weekly Slimming World group met on Tuesday with the Weight Watcher group and Rainworth Leisure Artist group meeting on Wednesday. The monthly messy church was well supported on Wednesday with another one planned for Wednesday 19th March. The weekly Bible study and fellowship meeting was hosted on Thursday evening by Judith and Mick Daykin. The uniformed Rainbow and Brownie groups met on Friday evening. On Saturday the Mansfield Artist group met with the regular coffee morning also taking place. On Sunday morning Judith Daykin led the service with Mick Daykin and Alan Mosley reading. Margaret Toon played the music during the service and Christine Daniel welcomed members to church. The flowers decorating the church were donated by Myrna McCullough. Following the service refreshments were served in the hall. For their evening service members visited Blidworth Methodist Church for a service led by Bob Jones.

SS Simon and Jude’s

Morning Prayer services on both Tuesday and Thursday and also Thursday’s Holy Communion last week were led by the Rev Hazel Robinson who along with Stephanie Smart led Thursday’s Vestry hour. The Simon music group met for rehearsal and planned music for Sunday’s service and for a forthcoming charity booking in Mansfield. The regular weekly coffee mornings were held on Thursday, Friday and Saturday mornings and on Sunday morning an‘All age worship’ was led by the Rev Robinson and Sharon Winders. Uniformed groups also participated, helping out with the service. There were readings from Marilyn Brown. During the afternoon, couples planning marriage at the churches in the benefice were invited to come along and gather an insight into the commitment of marriage, and learn about the marriage service. Refreshments were available and the afternoon proved to be enjoyable. Celia’s House group meets on alternate Tuesdays from 10am-11.30am, all are welcome. There will be a Churches Together Lent course from 7-8.30pm on the five Wednesday evenings throughout Lent; it will be following the theme of ‘Pathways to Prayer’. St Simon’s is hosting on two evenings, today Devotional Prayer, and Wednedday 26th March, Sacramental Prayer.

Blidworth

Pensioners’ Club

On Monday week, the meeting was opened by Mrs M. Brailsford. Mrs K. White, Mrs J. Pitt and Mrs R. Dodsworth served the members with refreshments. Tickets were sold by Mrs J. Dodsworth and Mr H. Alcock called the bingo. Mrs M. Cooper organised and called the quiz and the winner was Mrs J. Dodsworth. Bingo winners were Mesdames J. Dodsworth, S Layland, T. Jukes, J. Alexander, J. Pitt, M. Fletcher V. Greaves and Mr K. Cooper. Raffle winners were Mesdames V. Greaves, J. Alexander, P. Smart, K. White, T. Jukes, E. Haggarty, and J. Pitt.

St Andrew’s

The Morning Prayer services were held on Monday and Wednesday led by the Rev Hazel Robinson, who also led Wednesday’s morning Communion. Followed by a short service in the chapel, Vestry Hour is a time for people to book weddings, ask for banns to be read, book baptisms or would like to pop in and talk to the clergy. It is held at St Andrew’s on Wednesdays from 6-7pm and this week was led by Angela Penny. The church is hosting ‘Experience Easter’ on Tuesday 18th and Thursday 20th March at St Andrew’s Mission, for the children of Blidworth Oaks School.

St Mary’s

The Rev Clare Tyack led the service on Sunday morning. Assisting her with the service was Stephanie Smart who also gave the sermon during the service. Also assisting the Rev Tyack was Stephen Fox, who later read from the Gospel. Old Testament readings were from Cath McCready and New Testament readings were given by Robin Sharpe. Carol Brown led prayers and Gordon Foster played the music to accompany the service.

Methodist Church

The Art Group met for itsregular Tuesday session. A Churches Together Lent course is planned for Blidworth and Rainworth between 7- 8.30pm on five Wednesday evenings throughout Lent. On 19th March, Blidworth Methodists will be hosting the meeting with another planned on the 2nd April on the theme of Contemplative Prayer. Karen O’Hara led the weekly prayer group at the church on Thursday and on Sunday morning Robert Vickers led the service with music played by Vanessa Crane. Simon Crane and Ann Daines read lessons with church members welcomed by Joyce Humphries. Flowers decorating the church were donated by Pat Nutter. The Sunday school group were supervised by Karen O’Hara and Rebeccah Widowson. The church hosted a section service in the evening led by Rev’d Bob Jones.

Patient Participation

The group held its first Beetle Driveon Monday week, raising £65 towards buying two new defibrillators for the Medical Practice. The group is planning to make this a regular event to take place on the fourth Monday of each month (with the exception of Bank Holidays), with the nexton 31st March, entrance £3 each. The PPG is holding its annual meeting on Tuesday 18th March at 5pm at Blidworth surgery – new members welcome. On 22nd March at 7.30pm, the group is holding a concert featuring the Ravenshead Swing Band at the Sherwood Forest Community Church. Tickets cost £5 and can be bought from Adcocks Financial Services in Ravenshead shopping precinct or by ringing 07914 116459 for more information. Refreshments will be available and there will be a raffle. Again proceeds will be for the purchase of defibrillators.

Kirklington

St Swithin’s

The Rev Richard Seymour Whiteley led Holy Communion on Sunday morning. There were readings from Sue Carter and Margaret Robinson, with Christine Bowring playing the music to accompany the service. The next service will be Morning Prayer on Sunday.

Halam

St Michael’s Church

Morning began with an early spoken service led by the Rev David McCullough. Later the he led an ‘All age’ worship service with a ‘dragon’ theme, especially for youngsters. David Coulishaw played the music during the service.

edingley

Methodist Church

The next service will be on Sunday 23rd March at 6pm, also conducted by the Rev Helen Nice.

St Giles Church

Evensong on Sunday was taken by Ann Godfrey and included readings from Cathy Clay and Ann Tyler. David Brown played the music during the service.

Village News

The Farnsfield Daffodil festival will take place over the weekend of 5th and 6th April at The Old Schoolroom, Edingley, from 11am-4pm on each day. Refreshments and cream teas will be served. Entry forms are available from coffee mornings held at the venue.
