Competition success for 15-year-old solo singer

Meden School student Savinnah Quelcuti started singing when she was five and has performed numerous concerts for a range of organisations and charities around Mansfield.

But the 15-year-old songbird has now taken things to the next level by entering Open Mic UK - a national competition aimed at solo singers, rappers and vocalists.

Savinnah wowed judges at the live regional final in Sheffield on Sunday, 29th September, and was one of just four artists to make it through to the next round - to be held in Dewsbury on 1st December.

She will compete with the best singers from throughout Scotland and the north of England, for a place in the national final next year.

Dad Victor told the Chad: “It was a fantastic day with some excellent talent on show.

“Her performance went down a storm and she was one of four contestants making the judges choice to progress to the next round.

“If successful in this next stage, she will be guarantee a place in the grand final where she will perform live at the O2 Arena in London in front of celebrity and recording industry judges. “

Savinnah has competed in a range of other competitions, including the Rotary Club’s Young Musician of the Year 2012 and Mansfield’s Got Talent 2013.

She is currently working hard for her GCSEs and has already been offered places at prestigious music academies, which are on hold until she has finished her education, Victor said.

Open Mic UK is one of the biggest singing competitions on the country. Previous finalists include Birdie, Lucy Spraggan, Jahmene Douglas, and Hatty Keane.
