DELIGHTED fans of ‘Coronation Street’ met a star of the long-running TV soap at the official opening of a new store in Bulwell town centre.
As our photo shows, Jack Shephard, who plays David Platt in the show, cut a ceremonial ribbon to launch the Poundland shop on Lower Main Street.
Despite pouring rain, Jack’s visit ensured a big turnout, and he presented a £1 voucher to the first 50 customers.
Jack’s character in ‘Corrie’ is sometimes a bit scary and, during his visit to Bulwell, a shopper asked him why he tried to kill his mum, Gail!
In contrast, Jack impressed with his engaging personality. He was happy to chat with lots of people who queued up for his autograph.
One of ‘Corrie’s’ most devoted fans, Annegelina Inight, of Hyson Green, waited outside the shop for an hour in advance of Jack’s arrival. She had travelled to Bulwell by tram with her five-month-old son, Oliver, in his buggy. She said: “No way was I going to miss this opportunity to come face to face with Jack.”
The opening ceremony was part of a fun day and store manager Craig Kingsland enthused: “The response from the public was brilliant.”
Twenty-two new jobs have been created at the store, which is located at the former Clothing Direct premises. Fundraising took place during the day for Poundland’s adopted charity, Macmillan Cancer Support — DISPIC NHUD11-1916-1.
