WORK to protect Hucknall households from the impact of flooding has been welcomed by a councillor in the town.

Coun John Dymock (Con) is the only Hucknall representative who sits on Ashfield District Council’s ‘flood panel’ committee.

The committee has sanctioned more than £22,000 worth of flood-defence work on Ward Avenue and Wighay Road.

A delighted Coun Dymock said: “Floods can ruin people’s homes and lives, so I’m delighted we’ve been able to help those most at risk by spending the money on protecting their homes.

“I am the only Hucknall councillor who sits on the flood committee and it is a responsibility that I take very seriously.”

There are claims that literature is being circulated by the Labour Party ahead of May’s local elections that its councillors are responsible for the work. But this has been rubbished by local Tories, including Hucknall candidate Rob Copley.
