County council launches mocktail campaign for booze-free Christmas

Drinkers are being tempted into trying non-alcoholic cocktails as an alternative to traditional festive beverages.

As part Nottinghamshire County Council’s drive to encourage people to cut down on the booze this Christmas, their road safety team have come up with a selection of tasty ‘mocktails’ to show drivers that sticking to non-alcoholic drinks needn’t be boring.

The council has joined forces with local branches of Morrison’s for special making and tasting sessions where shoppers are being shown how to make the perfect booze-free alternatives.

“With the festive season now well upon us and office parties and family get-togethers beckoning, the temptation and pressure to have “one for the road” is often overwhelming,” says the county council’s principal road safety officer Zena Oliver.

“With that in mind, our mocktails are the perfect answer.

“They’re fun and provide a genuinely tasty alternative to the usual choice of soft drinks which are available for responsible drivers who don’t want to drink alcohol.

“When we held tasting sessions at supermarkets last year people were genuinely surprised by good they were, with many people dashing off down the aisles to stock up in the ingredients.

“I would urge anyone hosting a party this Christmas to take a look at our mocktail recipes and provide responsible drivers with something that is festive and fun – but ultimately safe.”

Mocktail tasting sessions are being held between 12noon and 4pm at the Morrison’s stores on Mansfield Woodhouse this Friday, 6th December, and in Kirkby on 16th December.
