As our photos show, a silver Vauxhall Meriva was targeted with red paint and a second vehicle, a Honda CRX Transport, described by the owner as “our baby”, was targeted with the acidic substance, leaving the paintwork flaking off.

It is believed the vandalism happened earlier this morning and before the owner was alerted by a neighbour at 7am.

Now an appeal has been made for anyone who might have CCTV footage of the attack, either on Derbyshire Lane or West Terrace.

The owner of the cars, who asked to remain anonymous, said: “We have spent hundreds on getting the Honda done up, bit by bit, and now it needs a full re-spray.

"I’ve not been well and now this.”

Anyone with information is asked to get in touch with the police on 101.
