The victim was innocently washing his hands when he felt a hand in his pocket and immediately turned around to see a man standing behind him having taken what was reported to be more than £1,000 in cash.

A door supervisor was alerted and quickly ran into the toilets of the pub on Church Street and blocked the exit so no-one could leave and called for assistance.

Police officers were at the scene within 10 minutes and arrested Troy Faizal Bukenya at the scene on suspicion of the robbery.

The 21-year-old, of Byron Street in Hucknall, was searched at Mansfield Police Station and officers found bank notes down his boxer shorts as well as secreted in his denim shorts.

Officers say the cash was then seized and they were able to capture Bukenya on CCTV footage entering the pub’s toilets.

Bukenya admitted two counts of theft, driving while disqualified and without insurance and taking a vehicle without consent as well as breaching a suspended sentence.

He was sentenced to eight months in prison at Nottingham Crown Court on Thursday (April 22).

The second theft charge relates to Bukenya stealing a tub of baby milk worth £15 from a store on Commercial Road in Bulwell.

He had placed the item into a pram on October 20, 2020 before making no attempt to pay.

The driving offences relate to an incident on New Year's Day 2021 when Bukenya was spotted driving a SEAT car In Mapperley.

Officers followed the car onto Cudworth Drive, when it maneuvered at the end of the cul-de-sac and was blocked in before officers arrested him.

Det Con Shelley Taylor, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: "I’d like to praise the victim for their bravery in reporting these incidents and their co-operation throughout our investigation. I hope they can take some comfort now that we’ve managed to remove a prolific offender from our streets.

“Nottinghamshire Police treats all robberies and attempted robberies with the utmost severity and, as in this case, will devote whatever resources are necessary into tracking down and convicting people who think they can simply take what they want from others.”
