Man arrested on suspicion of shoplifting had been drink driving

A man who was arrested on suspicion of shoplifting ended up with a ban for drink driving.

Michael Eaton pleaded guilty at Mansfield Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday to driving his Daewoo car on Oak Tree Lane and Jubilee Way South Mansfield on 16th May while over the legal alcohol limit.

The court heard Eaton, of Edgley Avenue had been arrested on suspicion of theft at the nearby Tesco supermarket.

Magistrates were told Eaton had given a lift to a woman to the store, who had allegedly shoplifted DVDs.

The woman ran off leaving behind a bag in a trolly containing the stolen goods and all charges of theft made against Eaton were dropped.

But the court heard Eaton admitted driving to the location as his car was in the car park.

He said he had no idea he was over the limit having just had a couple of pints.

Eaton was found to have 47 mcg of alcohol in 100 ml of breath, when the legal limit is 35mg.

He was disqualified from driving for 12 months fined £200, with £85 court costs a victim surcharge of £20 and a £150 court charge.
