Man charged in connection with a caravan theft in Ollerton

Officers from the roads policing unit became suspicious of driver in a car towing a caravan in the Forest Road area of Ollerton and worked with intelligence teams which resulted in a man being arrested following the incident, at around 6pm, on April 4.

Carl Simpson was subsequently charged with theft of a caravan, going equipped, drug-driving, fraudulent use of plates as well as driving without insurance and without a licence by the force's criminal investigation department.

The 39-year-old, of Central Drive in Calow, Chesterfield, was remanded in custody to appear at Nottingham Crown Court, on October 11.

During a separate stop, an unsafe load of construction materials was identified on a heavy goods vehicle on the A38 in Sutton and the driver was reported for summons.

Roads officers have also been carrying out enquiries into the investigation of a fatal motorbike collision near Oldcotes on Easter Sunday (April 4) having attended the scene.

A 41-year-old man died after his bike came off the A634 at around 10.45am.

The action included conducting speed offence operations in rural villages, such as Calverton and Radcliffe-on-Trent where they conducted numerous stop checks on vehicles and spoke with one driver.

Sergeant Craig Luckett, from Nottinghamshire's Roads Policing Unit, said: "Criminals should be warned, our policing teams are out in both marked and unmarked vehicles day and night, hunting out any criminality, and if we identify you as committing an offence, you will be dealt with robustly.

"It is vital that when you drive on the road that your vehicle is safe and legal, failing this you run the risk of being prosecuted or having your vehicle seized. So this as an ask to all drivers to please ensure vehicles are fit for purpose and help us prevent serious incidents.

"These incidents show that there is a wider variety of incidents that roads policing deals with from fatal collisions to prevention work.

"We're here to prevent serious incidents on the road and put a stop to any form of criminality on our networks and we use a range of tactics to keep people safe."
