Officers from the Ashfield neighbourhood policing team, supported by colleagues from Nottinghamshire Police’s dog unit, carried out three nights of action last week in response to local concerns.

Additional patrols were mounted in key residential areas and main traffic routes and officers also paid particular attention to drivers in and around the following locations, Farley’s Lane, Hucknall, Mansfield Road, Selston, Stanton Hill, Sutton and Chesterfield Road, Huthwaite.

Seven arrests were made for a range of offences including possession of weapons, possession with intent to supply drugs, driving while disqualified and violence offences.

In addition to the arrests several vehicles were stopped due to the manner of their driving and words of advice given. A car was also seized for having no insurance.

Inspector Mark Dickson, district commander for Ashfield, said: “During my career as a police officer I have seen with my own eyes the impact of dangerous driving on our roads – people killed and seriously injured, and devastated families left to pick up the pieces. That’s why I take this issue so seriously and am determined to respond to residents’ concerns.

“This operation was very resource intensive but that is the level of commitment we are willing to provide to our local residents. We are aware that this is an issue of concern for people and are determined to respond."
