Police plea for witnesses after brutal gang attack on near-blind Mansfield man

Police are appealing for witnesses to an assault on a man with severe visual impairment in Mansfield.

It happened outside a chemist’s shop on Newgate Lane at about 9.45pm on Thursday 13 November 2014.

The victim, aged 42, was attacked by a group of five males and knocked to the floor. He sustained a substantial cut to his eye lid, bruising and grazing to his legs in the assault.

Investigating officer, PC 3721 Kapasi, said: “This was a particularly vicious, unprovoked attack on a vulnerable man. We’d like to hear from anyone with information about the offenders. It is likely they have told someone what happened and we’d appeal for them to come forward.”

Anyone with information should contact PC Kapasi on 101 or call Crimestoppers anonymously.
