Inspector Mark Dickson's comments come as a crackdown on illegal substances yielded further results across Nottinghamshire this week after cannabis plants worth an estimated street value of around £60,000 were seized from a property in neighbouring Bulwell.

The raid comes just days after cannabis plants were recovered by Ashfield officers in Laughton Crescent and Beauvale Crescent, Hucknall.

Inspector Dickson praised the apparent victories for the force in the war on drugs but said they needed communities to unite if they are to make further progress.

He said: "We are working really hard to crack down on the illegal supply of drugs across the district and have had considerable recent success in disrupting the supply of cannabis.

"We raided to properties in Laughton Crescent and Beauvale Crescent, Hucknall, on Wednesday, May 27, and recovered cannabis plants. Over the last month we have seized more than £700,000 of cannabis in three very large hauls – in Kirkby, Selston and Huthwaite.

“My officers have also carried out several other drugs raids to combat class A drug supply and recovered further drugs and firearms. We're acting in this highly proactive way because members of the local community tell us it is one of their key priorities.

“Drug related crime is a blight on our communities and something that others should not have to live with. But we can't do this alone and also must rely on information provided to us by local residents.”

Officers from the Bulwell and Bulwell Forest Neighbourhood Policing Teams as well as Nottinghamshire Police’s Drones Unit executed a warrant at a property in Ockerby Street at around 10am on Tuesday, June 9, and discovered it had been converted into a cannabis factory.

Police Sergeant Oliver Vale, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “ Due to concerns around the safety of the electricity supply at the address officers have forced entry and located several rooms filled with cannabis plants and growing equipment.”
