CHRISTMAS presents on show under trees this festive season are easy pickings for burglars - police warn.
Despite a ‘significant’ drop in burglaries across the Hucknall area following the imprisonment of several persistent local criminals, police are asking residents to protect their property further.
“Now is the time to be extra vigilant,” said a police spokesman. “Criminals will be on the look out to steal your gifts so be extra security conscious to prevent thefts from happening.”
A house in Carlingford Road, Hucknall, had a laptop stolen when the back door was smashed open by thieves.
An unoccupied house was broken into and brass/copper fittings stolen as well as electric cables and a toilet.
A van was targeted in Tiverton Close, Hucknall, and thieves got away with power tools from the Vauxhall Combo and a scooter’s locking system was damaged when an attempt was made to steal it from Portland Road in the town.
Police were delighted that the Hucknall Carnival, held last week, went well and hailed it a success.
“There were more visitors than last year,” added the spokesman. “But thanks to the effective community teamwork and the Rotary Club’s organisation of the event, the night went without incident.”
