Woman jailed for running man over during fight in Bulwell

Leona Bailey, 26, of Cinderhill Road, Bulwell, arrived at the scene of an altercation in Goverton Square and Saxondale Drive in Bulwell on January 11, driving an Audi.

Witnesses described seeing people hitting the car with their fists before Bailey drove into a man and ran over him before coming to a stop.

Emergency services were called to the scene and the man was taken to hospital with serious injuries including broken ribs, a fractured pelvis, bruised lungs and cuts and bruises.

Bailey had pleaded guilty to a charge of causing serious injury by dangerous driving at a previous court appearance.

She was sentenced to a year and four months in prison for dangerous driving on Tuesday, September 8.

She was also disqualified from driving for two years.

Shaad Ayub, formerly of Brayton Crescent, Bulwell, Shaban Hussain, of Goverton Square, Bulwell, and Sufiyan Hussain, of Patchwork Row, Shirebrook, were also all sentenced after pleading guilty to charges of affray and possession of a bladed article in a public place.

Appearing at Nottingham Crown Court for sentencing on Wednesday, September 2, they were each jailed for 15 months for affray and given concurrent 15 month sentences for possession of a bladed article in a public place.

Two other men, charged with affray and possession of a bladed article, and a third man, charged with affray in connection with the incident are due to stand trial on 8 March next year.

Detective Inspector Ed Cook, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: "Nottinghamshire Police takes driving offences seriously.

"Bailey’s actions could have had fatal consequences and I welcome the sentence.

"Serious violence, including the use of knives and other weapons, will not be tolerated in Nottinghamshire and we will deal with such incidents swiftly and robustly.

“I’d like to thank the team involved in the investigation for their hard work and determination to achieve a good result.”
