Dancer Ellie meets Tiller Girls

A professional dancer from Sutton is to appear in a BBC Christmas special looking at the former Tiller Girls.

Ellie Cobb (30) from Sutton said she is excited to recreate the routines that captured the audiences of the 1900’s.

The Tiller Girls were known for their precision dancing and lasted for 90 years. The former Ashfield Comprehensive student said: “It has been so interesting to learn more about the Tiller Girls and get involved with the show. A lot of people don’t know who the Tiller Girls are nowadays so it will be great to give them a glimpse into the past. Some of the former Tiller Girls are still alive today and they can get their leg higher than me when they dance.”

Ellie trained at the Midlands Academy of Dance and Drama in Nottingham and now teaches at the Kirkby-based Christine March School of Dance.
